– FFWD Season 6 –
Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD) is the definitive fashion platform for Dubai and the Middle East – which provides a platform and a progressive direction for fashion in the region. FFWD is held twice a year, each April and October at The Madinat Jumeirah and the final day, the Day at d3, is held on site at Dubai Design District (d3)
In its sixth season now, Fashion Forward Dubai has been running annually since its foundation and has proven to be the leading fashion event and platform for fashion lovers in the Middle East. In case you aren’t familiar with the concept, FFWD presents works of designers with fresh minds in the region. Upcoming collections are displayed through presentations, talks and on runways.
The purpose of the event is to bring together fashion enthusiasts, professionals and buyers from around the globe in order to discuss ideas and network with each other. While catwalk shows display ready-to-wear couture for their upcoming collections, there’s also a section for more independent designers and boutiques to showcase and sell their work.
This year, I only attended the third day of FFWD for the reason that the shows I was anticipating were all due on that day. The ones I attended were for Madiyah Al Sharqi, House of Nomad and Amato by Furne One and they definitely did not disappoint. A common factor was the color scheme; since pastels are a key feature in the spring/summer 2016 collection. I noticed off-white, pale blue and baby pink on most outfits featured on the catwalk.
Madiayh’s collection featured delicate and breezy lace silhouettes with intricate detail to sleeves and frills, while House of Nomad’s designs featured strong structure and outline in their collection and Amato focused on pink frills and exciting textures (with a confetti ball outro to the show, which personally made me a very happy bunny that evening).
I was mostly excited for the new collection of House of Nomad and Amato, however, I wasn’t the only one. Because of the huge number of visitors, it was difficult to find seats without having to rush in immediately once the doors to the show were opened. In light of this, I wish there had been a better way to prioritize and organize the way visitors were to be seated. Although there is an entrance for press, bloggers and VIP members, there aren’t enough seats for front row view. Regardless of this, FFWD Season 6 had proven to be a success once again and I am looking forward to attending the next season.
On a side note: don’t forget to register here for the next season of FFWD – whether you are a student, fashion enthusiast or blogger, there’s a spot for everyone. (Registration fees may apply)
